Biographical Information
Dr. Deloris L. Jerman

Dr. Deloris L. Jerman is the
Assistant Dean of the College
of Graduate and
Professional Studies and Chair of the Department of Education. She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary
education from Winston-Salem State University,
a master’s degree in elementary education from Appalachian State University, certification
in administration and supervision from North Carolina
Central University,
and doctorate degree in educational leadership from the University
of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill. Much of her
professional experiences have been in the public schools. She has spent more
than fifteen years teaching at the elementary, middle school, and secondary
levels; five years in public school management and administration; seven years
in administration in higher education; and coordinator of student support
services. Other experiences include
Supervisor of Student Teachers at the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,
Coordinator of the Child Development Center
at Winston-Salem State
University, and Coordinator of
Elementary Education and the Graduate Education Programs at Shaw University.
She developed the Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction with a
concentration in Early Childhood Education that was approved
by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and gained temporary
authorization from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). As Chair of the Department of Education
during preparation for and team visits from the National Council for
Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and NCDPI, she led the unit to a
successful visit where all standards were met. She is currently leading the preparation for
a program approval visit for the graduate program from NCDPI scheduled for
spring 2008.
