Therapeutic Recreation
Therapeutic recreation is the provision
of Treatment and Recreation Services to persons with illnesses or disabling
conditions. The undergraduate program offers experiences that include a
continuum of functional abilities and assist in diagnosis; an academic
environment that focuses on the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and attitudes
that facilitate an independent lifestyle; and recreation participation that
uses activities to enhance health.
Work places include:

Recreational agencies
·
Free-standing rehabilitation hospitals; outpatient
rehabilitation facilities; and rehabilitation units within hospitals
·
Home health care agencies
·
Residential facilities for persons with disabilities
·
Long-term care or skilled nursing facilities
A minimum of 500 clock hours of professional observations,
practicum experiences, and internships is an integral component of the
major.
