CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY
MONTH
WITH
On February 19 at 4pm, in the auditorium in Estey Hall,
you can enjoy a presentation entitled “Black
Chronicles”
It will include slave narratives and music from former
slaves recorded by the Federal Writers Project at the turn of the
19th century.
You will also hear living history stories based
upon African-Americans elders who have had a positive impact on the lives of
Shaw students.
Re-enactments of critical events which set the precedent
for the Civil Rights movement was documented in a monthly news journal called
“Black Chronicles” will also be presented. This journal was subscribed to by
millions of African-Americans in the early 19th century. Its purpose
was to inform, update and indirectly educate the national community about
revolutionary historical events and movements and the social, political,
economic and educational issues which impacted and shaped the lives of Black
Americans.
