Reference Services
The Reference Room, located on the second floor, assists library patrons
in obtaining information and using the library collections. The department
provides information services and bibliographic resources to support the
informational needs of users, and guide students in acquiring the research
skills needed for lifelong learning. Patrons may request assistance in
person at the Reference Desk, by telephone (546-8450) or e-mail (jsimuel@shawu.edu).
Reference service by appointment is available for bibliographic
consultation on research topics.
The department endeavors to collect appropriate materials to support the
academic programs of the university. The collection contains over 10,000
dictionaries, encyclopedias, bibliographies, directories, law books, as
well as electronic databases and Internet services.
The department offers workshops and tours designed to familiarize students
with the library, and to teach effective use of library materials. Library
instructions are offered by request, and are delivered onsite, in a
classroom setting or via videoconferencing. Please phone the reference
