Shaw University Names New Director of Public Relations

Raleigh, NC -- (May 15, 2004) -- Shaw University's former Director of Development and Public Relations, Ms. Regina Boone diligently served her alma mater for over seven years. She is now expanding her professional expertise in a similar area of higher education. 
The University recently named LaChauna Sumpter as its new Director of Public Relations in the Department of Institutional Advancement. Since October of 2003, Ms. Sumpter hosted The Morning Set Jazz show and Stories for your Lunch Pleasure, a reading series on WSHA-88.9 FM. Preceding her experience in radio broadcasting, Ms. Sumpter worked as the Assistant to the Director of Development and Public Relations at Shaw University. She is a native of Queens, N.Y. who relocated to New Bern, North Carolina, in 1995 to further her education. Her background consists of working with Epley Associates, Inc. (a regional PR agency) and with the NC Department of Crime Control and Public Safety's Organizational Effectiveness Unit. Ms. Sumpter earned the Bachelor of Art in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC.

Shaw University, founded in 1865, is the oldest historically Black institution in the South. Since 2003, the University has been under the leadership of Dr. Clarence G. Newsome. President Newsome’s leadership pursues the theme: “Strides to Excellence: Only the Best!”
