Shaw Men’s Intramural Basketball Team to Play
for National Title

Raleigh, NC – (April 5, 2007) The opportunity for a 2007 national
title lies in the skillful hands of the Men’s Intramural Basketball
Team at Shaw University. The American Collegiate Intramural Sports (ACIS)
“Thrill On the Hill” National Basketball Tournament will be played
on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill, April 27th - 29th in Carmichael
Auditorium. 48 Teams are vying for the opportunity to claim the
title as National Champions.
The Men’s Intramural Team has a rich legacy of winning
accomplishments. This year has also been successful as they won the
HBCU Classic at Winston-Salem State University. They were invited to
participate in tournaments at Ohio State University, Middle
Tennessee State University and Johnson C. Smith University. Members
of the 2007 team include: Dominick Allen, Brandon Battle, Desmond
Bunn, Antonio Cheek, Brandon Ford, Daniel Jackson, Marcus Jennings,
Trevaris Moore, Byron Pearce, Stephon Wonge, Bromley Thornton and
Mitchell Upchurch. The Coaches are William Montague and Bromeley
Thornton.
The MVP of the “Thrill On the Hill” Tournament will be featured on a
Wheaties Cereal Box.
Following are the outstanding accomplishments of the Shaw University
Men’s Intramural Basketball Team:
1999 Lost in South Atlantic Regional Championship Game
(Regional Runner-Up)
1999 Billie Owens selected to South Atlantic Regional Team
2000 Lost in the Elite Eight
2001 Lost in South Atlantic Regional Semi-finals
2001 Jarrette Kearse selected to All-Region Team. Selected to play
with Shaw University’s Men’s Team and won a CIAA Championship.
Presently plays for AND1.
2002 South Atlantic Regional & National Champions
2002 Bromeley Thornton; Five-time Intramural Champion & All-America
Team. A 1997 graduate of Shaw University; Captain of Shaw
University’s first Men’s Team to receive an NCAA Tournament berth;
Player/Coach for Men’s Intramural Team and a Residence Counselor.
2002 Anthony Greenup selected Regional MVP. Selected to play with
Shaw University’s Men’s Team and received All-CIAA & All-America
honors. Led Shaw to a NCAA Division II Tournament berth and
presently plays for the Harlem Globetrotters.
2002 Rashaan Ames selected All-Region & All-America Teams. Presently
plays basketball in Brazil.
2004 Lost in South Atlantic Regional Championship Game
(Regional Runner-Up)
2005 South Atlantic Regional Champions
2005 Lost in National Championship Game (National Runner-Up)
2005 Jerron McKiskill selected South Atlantic Regional MVP &
All-America Team. He currently plays in the NBDL; an NBA
developmental league.
2005 Kevin Williams selected to South Atlantic Regional &
All-America Teams. He is a current member of the Shaw University
Men’s Basketball Team.

2007 HBCU Classic Champions
The Men’s Intramural Basketball Team has many outstanding athletes
and has represented the University in athletic excellence for many
years. The Shaw University Family is proud of this amazing on-going
legacy and salutes them and the Coaching Staff. We will cheer them
on to victory as they play for the 2007 national title.
