Shaw Players present “Ceremonies in Dark Old Men” November 15-19,
2006
The Shaw Players and Company, Inc. will present “Ceremonies in
Dark Old Men” by Lonne Elder at the Kennedy Theatre in the Progress
Energy Center for the Performing Arts. The performances are
Wednesday, November 15 through Saturday, November 18, 2006, at 7:30
pm; and Sunday, November 19 at 2:30 pm.
Under the direction of Kenneth Hinton, Assistant Professor of
Theater, Department of Visual and Performing Arts, Ceremonies
follows a day in the life of Russell Parker, a retired vaudeville
actor and dancer, and his trials and tribulations with family,
all-day checker playing with friends, and his customer-less barber
shop! The cast consists of local and student talent from Shaw
University. An original production of the Negro Ensemble Company,
this award-winning play was written by Lonne Elder III (author of
the Oscar-nominated “Sounder”), and has received numerous awards.
Funding for this Shaw Players and Company production was made
possible through a grant from the City of Raleigh Arts Commission.
Tickets for the show are $2 for students with ID, and $5 for the
