Shaw University to Host Ribbon Cutting at
Durham County Stadium
Raleigh, NC – (August 14, 2007) With the expansion
of new buildings on campus and an international partnership
established with institutions in China, the progressive boundaries
of Shaw University are limitless. The University has broadened the
scope with a new partnership with Durham County to host the
2007-2010 football seasons in the Durham County Stadium. A Ribbon
Cutting Ceremony and press conference will officially launch this
exciting “New Reality” of Shaw University Athletics on Thursday,
August 16th at 10:00 a.m. at the Stadium located at 2700 Stadium
Drive, Durham, NC.
Beautifully renovated, the community is invited in to view the new
upgrades that have been made to the Stadium. A jumbo slide will be
available for kids to enjoy in the new “Kid’s Zone” that will be
featured at all of the home games. The Platinum Sound Marching Band
and cheerleaders will provide the best in school spirit and pride.
A slate of distinguished guests will be on hand to witness and
participate in the ceremony. Representation includes members of the
Durham County Stadium Authority; Durham County Commissioners; Leon
Kerry, CIAA Commissioner; Dr. Clarence G. Newsome, President of Shaw
University; Attorney Willie E. Gary, Chairman of the Board of
Trustees of Shaw University; Martel Perry, Executive Vice President;
Al Carter, Director of Athletics, Head Football Coach Darryl Asberry
and University Board of Trustee members.
A Football Meet and Greet will follow the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at
11:00 a.m. on the field of Durham County Stadium. The football team
and coaching staff will answer questions about the exciting upcoming
season and the new venue.
