Shaw Divinity School to Host 23rd Annual
Women’s Conference
Raleigh, NC – (July 17, 2006) The Shaw University Divinity School
is pleased to announce the 23rd Annual Women’s conference, Jezebel
and Mary Magdalene Revisited: Faith, Health, Sexuality, and
Spirituality for the 21st Century, September 15, 2006, 8:00 am -
4:00 pm, in the Willie E. Gary Student Union Ballroom. World
renowned speakers include Dr. Kelly Brown Douglas, Professor and
Chair of Philosophy and Religion at Goucher College. An ordained
Episcopal minister, she will speak at the opening plenary session.
She has been recognized by Essence magazine as one of the country’s
most distinguished religious thinkers, teachers, ministers and
counselors. The closing session of the Conference will feature Dr.
Cheryl Kirk-Duggan, Professor of Theology and Women’s Studies at
Shaw University Divinity School. An ordained Christian Methodist
Episcopal minister, she is featured in Malka Drucker’s White Fire: A
Portrait of Women Spiritual Leaders in America.
The "Jezebel and Mary Magdalene Revisited” conference will bring
scholars and practitioners to the Research Triangle area to address
issues of spirituality, health, domestic violence, sexual assault,
wellness, and transformation which are at the forefront of personal
and community concerns. Presentations will focus on foundations for
healthy living, spiritual practices, self-healing, and creating
healthy communities, while also exploring the integral relationship
between body, sexuality, mind, and spirit. Conference presenters
include Dr. Carol Bunch, Rev. Linda VanHook, and Rev. Gloria Lowe.
Dr. J.T. Roberson is Dean of the Shaw University Divinity School.
The North Carolina Department of Public Health is a proud co-sponsor
of this transformational event! The “Jezebel and Mary Magdalene
