Major in Exercise Science: Pre-Athletic Training (B.S.)
The bachelor of science degree in exercise science with a concentration in pre-athletic training is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills to enter into corporate fitness centers, health clubs, sports medicine clinics, cardiac rehabilitation
programs, sports training facilities or other programs that require exercise testing and prescription. Exercise Science is the systematic study of the mechanisms underlying human movement exercise, and physical activity. This encompasses aspects from
the disciplines of human anatomy, physiology, neuroscience, psychology, motor control and biomechanics. An individual studying exercise science should have a strong interest in applying scientific principles to a variety of human movement, exercise,
and physical activity settings.
The concentration in pre-athletic training provides students with an overview of the Athletic Training profession. Students are introduced to concepts such as orthopedic evaluation, rehabilitation techniques, and taping and bracing principles, which prepare
them for entry-level master in athletic training programs, in addition to graduate programs in physical therapy or occupational therapy. Students will develop skills in critical thinking, research, and writing.
Students will also gain valuable skills and knowledge in the
following areas:
- Human movement
- Orthopedic evaluation
- Rehabilitation techniques
- Taping and bracing principles
