01. Who can apply to the Shaw University Adult Degree Program?
  • Adult Degree Students are considered 24 years of age and beyond.
  • Working Professionals, Transfer Students, Veterans, Busy Adults.
  02.  How much does the Adult Degree Program cost?  $390 per credit
03. When can I start?

Adult Degree Program students can start at six different times throughout the year.

  • Fall I
  • Fall II
  • Spring I
  • Spring II
  • Summer I
  • Summer II
  04. How long will it take to complete a Bachelor’s degree?
  • Depending on accepted transfer credits, students can complete their degree in as little as two years.
  • North Carolina Community College graduates (A.A. and A.S.) are admitted with Junior standing. Shaw will accept up to seventy (70) credits from specified A.A.S. programs for completed courses with a final course grade of “C” or better.
  • Shaw University will review credits earned at prior colleges and universities as part of the advising and registration process. 
  05. How long are the Adult Degree Program classes 
  • Depending on the program you select, classes may be offered in a 16-week traditional format or an 8-week accelerated course format.
  • Classes are 8-weeks long during the Fall and Spring.
  • Classes are 6-weeks long during the Summer.
  • Classes are offered year-round during the Fall, Spring, and Summer
  06. Does the Adult Degree Program offer seated or online courses? 

 Both!

  • Classes are offered in a seated classroom format at the Raleigh Campus
  • Classes are also offered online and hybrid
  07. Does the Adult Degree Program offer financial assistance?
  • Adult Degree Program students receive a discounted tuition rate.
  • The Shaw University Adult Degree Program is eligible for Federal Financial Aid through loans and grants. 
  • Eligible Adult Degree Program students may also qualify for North Carolina State Grant funding.
  08. What majors are offered in the Adult Degree Program?

Majors Offered in a 6- or 8-Week Format

  09. What are the admissions requirements for the Adult Degree Program 

Qualified applicants with a 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) or better seeking admission to the Adult Degree Program must submit the following:

  • A Shaw University online application for admission.
  • High School Degree or Equivalent if the applicant has no college experience.
  • Official copies of transcript from all colleges or universities previously attended.
  • Official Transcript (s) must be sent directly to Shaw University electronically via adpadmissions@shawu.edu or send it via mail to: Office of Admission Shaw University

NOTE: Applicants whose intended major is either Education or Social Work may apply with either two years of college coursework OR three years in the workforce and will undergo another admission process within that department.
