NC GS 15-12 - Unclaimed Property

Pursuant to North Carolina General Statue 15-12, any unclaimed property which has been in the custody of a law enforcement agency for a period of 180 days after seizure, confiscation, or receipt, shall be advertised publicly. Items which remain unclaimed after 30 days from the first day of advertisement shall be destroyed, sold, or donated to a charitable organization exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Any items seized during a criminal investigation shall be disposed of pursuant to court disposition or a court order filed with the courts of Wake County.

To make claim to property, the claim must be made by the owner of the property and provide an accurate description including and identifying marks or serial number.

Advertisement of property will be made on this site and university electronic media platforms.  Property will not be available for inspection prior to providing sufficient identifying information to satisfy the belief the property has been identified.  Property will be returned to the owner after completion of all necessary documentation.
